Koningslaan 51 is a villa with a story to tell. Its tale is still unfolding, but it starts with the construction of the railway lines from Amsterdam to the Gooi region between 1874 and 1881. That marked the moment when well-to-do Amsterdam residents found it much easier to have a country house built in the beautiful manor houses that dotted the landscape, or to make the decision to live in the countryside more permanently, as they no longer needed to rely on the horse-drawn canal boats to go back and forth. Within a very short time frame, the improved access led to villa districts such as Trompenberg in Hilversum and Het Spieghel in Bussum. A young merchant couple from Amsterdam followed in the footsteps of many of their fellow urbanites, buying a sizable plot on Koningslaan at the corner of Willemslaan and commissioning the construction of a magnificent villa in classic style. It was built in two stages, however, since they had decided to erect the 'front wing' first, and extend the villa at a later time once they had children. However, that never happened, so the villa remained a promise for the future. The gorgeous facade was a representation of that future, which had yet to be fulfilled in the back extension of the villa. In that initial state, the villa was home to a series of residents. Some of them did have plans for extensions, including very detailed drawings, but apart from a less than successful kitchen addition, not much was actually built over the years. Finally, over hundred years after the foundation stone was laid, the current owners decided to write a whole new chapter and finish the villa the way it was originally intended. In collaboration with Denc Architects and in close consultation with the Bussum municipal authorities, the extension and a thorough modernisation were carried out in 2008 after meticulous preparation. The renovation and expansion maintained many of the original details that captured the soul of the villa, resulting in positively cosmopolitan standards of luxury.

Over 1500 m² of tranquillity and privacy.
This gorgeous plot, surrounded by tall hedges, trees and bushes, harbours a garden which basically has it all: a beautiful lawn, terraces, a range of sunny and shaded areas, and two historic beeches that bestow even more class and ambiance upon the villa. A magnificent wrought-iron gate on Koningslaan grants access to a pathway which leads to the entrance in the south-facing side facade. Hidden in the tall greenery, a second entrance to the villa is situated at Willemslaan, with equally magnificent wrought-iron gates granting access to a spacious parking lot and garden.

A villa that exudes space and atmosphere.
It already starts with the entrance and hallway: plenty of space and a great atmosphere due to the magnificent marble floor, the professionally profiled woodwork on the stairs, and the arched window frames. From the entrance area, when entering the hallway, take an immediate right to enter the vestibule that provides access to the toilet.
Immediately adjacent are the stairs to the first floor, with a door below that grants access to the stairway leading to a spacious cellar, which also including the central heating in a separate facility room. Viewed from the front door again, there are doors from left to right leading to the lounge, the library/study and the living room, which transitions into the dining room, which combines with the adjacent, very well-equipped designer kitchen to form an ample living space. Running across the full width of the east-facing facade, a lovely covered patio is accessible from the living room and dining room by means of French doors. The pantry beside to the kitchen also has an exterior door leading to the covered terrace.

The first floor also boasts spacious rooms and elegant charm.
Having arrived by way of the beautiful stairs, you find yourself on a spacious landing with, from right to left, a bedroom with a balcony, a vestibule to a second bedroom, the laundry room and bathroom – also accessible through the second bedroom – and to the far left of the stairs, the door to what we will conveniently call the master bedroom wing. It consists of a study/bedroom which grants access to a spacious dressing room with beautiful built-in cupboards. The dressing room opens onto the master bedroom, while the spacious bathroom located behind that offers all imaginable bathroom luxuries.

And then there is also the second floor...
